What is Four Color Process Printing?

Flexographic four color process printing is a system where a color image is separated into four different colors: black, cyan (a turquoise hue), magenta (a purple hue) and yellow. The four images are transferred to printing plates, with each color having its own plate. When the ink is transferred from the plate to the substrate, the original image is reproduced. The four color process printing can provide you with an image that is of photo quality, with crisp, sharp edges and bright, vivid colors.

If you are going to produce large quantities of your label, you may want to consider going the four color process printing route. While you will face the up-front setup costs for the printing plates, once you have made that investment the printing process is extremely affordable.

If you are just starting a new business or are interested in making multiple versions of the same size of label to accommodate different products, you may want to go the digital route. Digital printing allows you to avoid those up-front costs that can be challenging for a small start-up company to absorb immediately.
