Using Color to Influence Consumers
- Mar 6, 2012
At the Seoul International Color Expo in 2004, it was documented that 92.6% of the consumers tested said they put most importance on visual factors when purchasing products. When asked to approximate the importance of color when buying products, those same individuals said that color accounts for more than half among the factors that was important when choosing products. Other studies have shown that 62% and 90% of the initial assessment a consumer makes when viewing a product is based on color alone.
Clearly it’s important to choose the right colors when designing custom labels for your products.
In our competitive market, every decision you make regarding the product is important, from the right product name to the right images to the right color.
It’s important to keep your target audience in mind when you are choosing the color palette for your audience. Bright, bold colors are going to be more likely to draw the eye of a younger audience. However, those same colors may be a turnoff for older customers who find the color palette tacky or garish.
Another factor to consider when choosing colors is that color is also tired to an emotion. Red, for example, is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances metabolism, increasing respiration rate and raises blood pressure. It is associated with energy, war, danger, strength power and determination, as well as passion and love, all very intense states of being. Even different shades of red can result in different emotions. Red is useful for bringing text to the foreground or when used as an accent to compel consumers to make quick decisions. Yellow, conversely, is associated with joy and happiness, intellect and energy. It stimulates mental activity and arouses cheerfulness. It is a great color to use to promote children’s products or items related to leisure, since it evokes pleasant, cheerful feelings.
Whatever colors you decide to choose for your custom labels, make sure you perform your research in advance and carefully weigh your target audience and the message you want to send. For more information on custom labels, visit our website at LabelValue.com.
