- Nov 10, 2011
So you are embarking on the wonderful world of Social Media and have just created your first Facebook fan page. However, this isn’t like the “Field of Dreams.” Just because you built it doesn’t mean they will come. Check out these basic steps for promoting your Facebook page.
- Be a fan yourself. While you will simply want to be a fan because your page is your own creation, it’s also a way to promote the page, since anyone who visits your profile will see that you are a fan
- A picture is worth a thousand words. You are given the space for a vertical header or graphic that is 200 pixels wide and 600 deep. Create something that is eye catching and will brand your organization.
- Link your social networks. If you have a Twitter account as well, and you should, use the Facebook/Twitter application to link your page to Twitter. This will allow Twitter to be updated each time you post on your fan page.
- Create a welcome page. Create a landing page, other than the wall, using the Static FBML application.
- Communicate. Allow your fans to write on your wall and engage with you. Respond to their messages on your wall. Post messages of your own that will inform and entertain.
- Promote your page on your products. Put Facebook labels on your products to let your customers know that you now have a Facebook page.
- Create a Vanity URL. Once you have accumulated 25 fans, Facebook allows you to create a Vanity URL. You can place that URL on your personal profile, add it to your email and forum signatures, and have it printed on your business card.
- Facebook Fan Box. The Fan Box is similar to the regular Facebook “Like” button that you usually see on websites. The Fan Box allows you to include a stream from your wall, show fans, or show your Facebook logo.
- Link Blog. Use an application to link your blog to your Facebook page. Not only will this allow your fans to visit your blog directly from your page, it will also allow you to post your blogs to your wall automatically.
- Newsletter. Put a link to your social media sites in your newsletter. Also consider adding a tab for signing up for your newsletter directly on your Facebook page.
