Will Budweiser's New Packaging Increase Sales?

There is no denying that there is a multitude of products for which sales are heavily influenced by the packaging. But is beer included on this list? I would argue that for the less well known, craft beers, sales are definitely influenced by the beer labels. But what about the well-known brands? Does packaging make a difference in sales?

Budweiser apparently believes so. They recently released images of their new cans, which will be rolling out May 6, 2013. The new shape will match the bowtie design on the side of the can and, Budweiser hopes, bring new sales with its new look. The unique look will, undoubtedly, stand out from other cans.

But will the increase in sales be significant enough to cover the cost of the new steps in production? Or is the company banking on the slightly smaller size (11.3 oz as compared to the typical 12 oz.) to cover the increased production costs?

What do you think? Will this new can increase overall beer sales?
