Making Jewelry for Kids

Making jewelry can be a great hobby and making jewelry for kids can be extra special, getting the chance to watch their eyes light up when they see something that was made just for them. There are a few rules you should consider before you start this project. Here, we have laid out a few basic guidelines for making jewelry for kids.

    1. Does the child have skin allergies? While all people can have skin allergies, children are especially inclined to suffer from skin irritations. While not always possible, try to find out if the child in question has any skin allergies and avoid using those materials when making them jewelry.

    1. Consider size. While it may seem obvious that you need to make the size smaller to accommodate such a small person, you will also need to take size into consideration with design as well, anticipating less room to work with. Also, make sure you select the right beads and that they will look good on a small hand or neck.

    1. Avoid choking hazards whenever possible. Because you are working with beads, it’s nearly impossible to avoid all choking hazards. However, you can limit the risk by using fewer beads or trying to use larger ones. Also, make sure all the beads are secured in place and that there is no risk of the jewelry breaking.
