Celebrate Earth Day by "Greenwrapping" Products
- Apr 17, 2013
Earth Day is coming up on Monday, April 22, making this a great opportunity to think about the sustainability of your products and packaging. Just like the growing organic trend, there has been an ongoing effort by companies to use sustainable materials in their product packaging, a trend referred to as “greenwrapping.”
According to a recent Forbes article, written by Jeremy Caplan with UPS, “Organic ingredients are no longer sufficient for green cred. What’s outside the product is starting to matter as much as what’s inside.” Some of the products that are gaining the most attention include metal tuna cans, toxic microwave popcorn bags…even tea packaging.
Don’t think that using green’ing up your packaging means you have to switch to boring packaging that will get overlooked on store shelves. Think outside the box and brainstorm materials, shapes and sizes that will improve sustainability.
Some companies even find that delivering sustainable packaging saves them money in the long term, since sustainability typically goes hand and hand with packing your product in the most efficient manner possible. By reducing waste and improving efficiency, you will often lower shipping costs and improve customer satisfaction.
Digitally printed custom labels with information on your recycling and sustainabilty practices will encourage customers to recycle and increase loyalty to your brand. These labels will also ensure your customers are aware of your continued dedication to producing eco-friendly, sustainable products.
