Back to School: Organize Your Dorm Room
- Aug 14, 2012
Students face a few challenges when it comes to organizing their dorm rooms: shortage of space, shortage of time for organizing, too many items to organize. However, there are steps you can take to organize your room that will make it easier to live in such a small space for the next year.
Planning ahead. One of the most important steps to organizing the room is to plan ahead. Go through all of your stuff and get rid of everything you don’t absolutely need. Make a list of everything that remains and arrange them in order of frequency of use, value, size, etc.
Curtains. Use curtains to divide the space in your room into sections. Curtains can make great closet doors and can also make your room more aesthetically appealing.
A system. The only way you will be able to make your organizational system is if you have a place for everything. You should have racks for shoes, laundry baskets for dirty clothing, shoe racks, and something for papers you want to hold onto or a bin for throwing them out.
Don’t go it alone. An organizational system will work better if you get your roommate in on it and agree on how you want to keep the room organized. You can also work together to coordinate colors for organizational tools to keep the entire room looking for attractive.
Utilize labels. Labeling shelves and bins is a great way to help keep yourself organized, as you’re more likely to put items back in their proper place. The Dymo embosser is a great tool for labeling since it’s fast and easy and produces attractive labels in a variety of colors, depending on your preference. You can have a new, visually appealing label made in seconds.
