5 Tips for Organizing Your Bathroom

If you’re anything like me the bathroom is an often overlooked place for organization. I’m often digging through drawers and cabinets in the kitchen, but find that I do this less often in the bathroom, where my most frequently used items are laid out on the sink or are tucked away within easy reach. I organized everything once, when I initially moved in and then proceeded to forget about it. However, it’s easy for clutter to build over time and it’s important to re-organize from time to time. Check out these 10 tips to organize your bathroom.

Toss items. Before you can organize what you have, you need to go through everything and toss expired items. Check the dates on medication and sunscreen. Toss old makeup and anything you haven’t used for an extended period of time. Obviously if you haven’t used it, you don’t need it.

Hang magazine rack. Many people keep a stack of magazines on the back of their toilets. Get rid of the clutter by installing a magazine rack on the wall where it is out of the way and won’t take up a lot of space.

Organize drawers. Put a utensil organizer in bathroom drawers to sort cotton swabs, safety pins, and other small items. You’ll be able to find items you need without having to rummage through a drawer.

Box it up. Keep items under your sink grouped together by type and stored in baskets. For example, keep all your nail care supplies in one small basket and your hair care supplies in another. It will make it easy to keep track of everything and to find something quickly and easily when you need it. Small sealed storage containers are also a great idea for keeping everything neatly stored. Make sure you use labels (a simple Dymo address label will work great) to make it easy to find what you need quickly.

Go cordless. Start purchasing hair care tools (blow dryers, curling irons, etc.) that have retractable cords. In the meantime, however, make a point to wrap the cord neatly when you’re finished (after it has had time to cool)!
