How to Remove Wine Labels

Many of us collect items: stamps, sports memorabilia, beer mugs, shot glass, etc. The list goes on and on. If you are a wine connoisseur, you may have a collection of wine bottles or even just wine labels. Wine journals are available for purchase to let you preserve labels you like alongside your favorite wines. The biggest challenge many face, however, is removing the labels from the bottles.

Different companies use different kinds of adhesives to attach the labels, which means some can be removed quickly and easily, while others remain stubbornly stuck on the bottle.

One method for removal is to soak the bottles in hot, soapy water for approximately an hour. At the end of the house, check to see if the wine label has fallen off or if it can be easily removed with a razor blade.

If you encounter labels that you are determined to add to your collection that seem particularly difficult, you may have to consider buying a wine label removal kit. There’s no guarantee but it’s definitely a good option as long as you don’t mind leaving the glossy surface on the label. Also keep in mind that this kit will only remove the face of the label, leaving the back part still attached to the bottle. This may be all you want, however if you are looking to reuse the bottle and apply your own custom wine labels, this could present a problem.

If all else fails, you may have to give up the label as a lost cause…although hopefully experiences like this one are few and far between. Good luck!
