What is Labor Day all about? Why do we celebrate it?
- Aug 24, 2016
September is almost here already. That means that the holiday season is nearly upon us with Labor Day coming up shortly.
Labor Day is a wonderful day to relax, spend time with friends and family, enjoy beautiful weather, or take one last vacation before the weather changes.
But what exactly is Labor Day? Why do we celebrate it?
Labor Day is actually pretty straightforward. Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It is celebrated on the first Monday of September. “ It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country," according to the Department of Labor.
In America, we take great pride in our work. According to statistics from the Bureau of Labor, Americans work more on average per year than any other country on earth.
So take a break from your hard work for one day this September 5th, and celebrate the great things that American labor has produced in the world.
