QR Codes Could Save Your Life

While you are likely familiar with QR codes, you may be unaware that they were first created in Japan approximately ten years ago by the automotive industry. They didn’t make an appearance in the United States until 2-3 years ago, at which time they started appearing everywhere.

However, what began as a simple marketing tool, connecting the offline and online worlds, has been taken a step further.

Mercedes has put QR codes onto its cars from September to help emergency responders rescue accident victims. The QR code, when scanned, will direct paramedics and firefighters with detailed rescue plans, including information about how the car can be pried apart.

The QR codes will be placed inside the fuel tank flaps and on the other side of the cars between the front and back doors.
