Pet Health Records: Getting Organized
- Jul 9, 2012
We never like to think about the fact that something might happen to our beloved, four-legged children. However, just like with our health, it’s important to always be prepared in the event that something does happen and we need to react quickly. When dealing with our pets the best way to be organized is to keep all of your pet's health records organized in one location.
Don’t wait for an emergency to happen. All you need to do to get organized today is to purchase a binder for each of your pets and put his or her name on it. Put the binder in a convenient location or, if easily accessible, with your other important paperwork.
Collect all the past health information on your pet that you can locate. Going forward, it will be easy for you to request copies of vaccinations, tests and medication.
The health binder should include:
- Your pet’s name, birthday (or estimated, if unknown), and gender
- Breed and general description, including color and approximate weight
- Recent photograph
- Microchip or tattoo information if you pet has one
- Contact information for your veterinary clinic
- Name and number for the local emergency vet hospital (which will save valuable time in an emergency)
- A list of medications and dosages
- A list of allergies and sensitivities
- Diet regiment, including brand of food
- List of surgeries and major illnesses and dates
