FAQ: Commonly Asked Questions About Custom Printed Label Ordering

Here's a rundown of some of the most commonly asked questions we get from customers regarding how to purchase custom printed labels at LabelValue.

Q. What type of artwork do I need to provide?

We request that you provide vector artwork (ideally created in Adobe Illustrator or other similar vector-based design programs) as a .ai or .pdf file. Your artwork should be created in CMYK color mode. It should be to exact size of your desired label with a 0.063" bleed on all sides. Also, be sure to outline all of your fonts before sending your file. If you can't provide vector artwork, we request that your raster art be at least 300 DPI at the desired label size.

For more information on these guidelines and how to submit print-ready artwork read our artwork guide here.

Q. What if I can't provide print-ready artwork? Do you provide art assistance?

If you require art assistance, we offer 15 minutes of free design time for minor adjustments with every order. The hourly rate for more extensive design work is $80. We can get nearly all types of artwork or concepts created and print-ready in less than 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the task.

Q. What is the current production turnaround time?

After your proof is approved, our current production time is 7-10 business days from the date we receive your art proof approval. If you need your labels sooner we offer expedited printing for a minimal rush fee, depending on the current queue.

Q. What are the shipping costs and what shipping method do you use?

We ship custom label orders via UPS Ground and the shipping rate will appear on your final invoice once the weight of your order is calculated.

Q. How do I know what size label to order?

For start-up companies that are placing their first label order or are ordering for a new product, we recommend that you take a piece of paper and cut it to the size you plan on using for your container. Wrap it around your container and confirm that you are satisfied with the area you plan to cover. Make any adjustments needed and then send us the final dimensions.

Q. What if my packaging is a strange shape or is conical/tapered?

If you have a conical or uniquely shaped container, please let us know up front. We may request manufacturer specs or a sample of your container to ensure your label will be applied correctly without the edges bubbling. We also offer shrink sleeve labels which may be a better fit for your uniquely shaped container. Ideally, pressure-sensitive labels are most easily applied to a flat surface.

Q. How do I get labels that don't appear shiny (matte-look)?

If you would like a non-shiny, matte appearance to your labels, we can apply a matte lamination to your labels. This will give the labels a classic, non-shiny, flat look.
