Printing your own sheet labels? We’ve got you covered! Follow this step-by-step guide to set up and print your artwork onto sheet labels using Microsoft Word.
Step 1: Setting Up Your Labels
- Open Microsoft Word and create a blank document.
- Navigate to the Mailings tab in the toolbar.
- Click Labels on the left-hand side.
- In the Envelopes and Labels pop-up, make sure you’re on the Labels tab.
- Click Options at the bottom of the window.
- Select New Label to create a custom size.
Step 2: Adjusting Label Dimensions
- Name your label for easy reference.
- Adjust the Label Height and Width to match your sheet labels. For example, LabelValue’s Custom Sheeted Labels might be 2” in height and 3” in width.
- Set the Top and Side Margins to match your label sheet. (LabelValue’s custom sheet labels have a 0.1” side margin.)
- Adjust the Vertical and Horizontal Pitch to ensure proper label spacing. The Vertical Pitch is the distance from the top of one label to the top of the label directly below it, while the Horizontal Pitch is the distance from the left edge of one label to the left edge of the next label in the row.
- Enter the Number Across and Down to match your sheet layout. (For example, 4 labels across and 3 down.)
- Choose the correct Page Size—either Letter (8.5” x 11”) or Custom based on your label sheet.
- Click OK to save your settings. If there’s an issue with the dimensions, an error message will prompt you to make adjustments.
Step 3: Creating the Label Template
- In the Product Number box, select your newly created label and click OK.
- Click New Document to generate a template with your label setup.
- If you don’t see the label outlines, go to the Home tab.
- In the Paragraph section, find the Borders icon (third section from the left).
- Click the drop-down arrow and select View Gridlines—your label outlines should now appear.
Step 4: Final Adjustments Before Printing
- Click the Layout tab at the top.
- Select Margins, then scroll down to Custom Margins.
- In the pop-up window, verify that the margins align with your custom label sheet.
- If a warning appears about margins being outside the printable area, click Fix or manually adjust them.
- Click OK.
- Insert your artwork into each label, load your sheet labels into your printer, and click Print to bring your labels to life!
