3 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Be Printing Your Own Labels
- May 29, 2013
If you are a small startup and sell a low volume of products, it may make sense to print your own labels in-house. However, as your business grows, printing your own labels can become counterproductive. Today we would like to touch upon the three top reasons you should not be printing labels yourself.
1.Quality. Quality is the overwhelming reason why companies should not be printing their own labels. Laser and inkjet-printed labels are not as high quality or durable. They will not be resistant to scratches and will become worn more easily than professionally printed labels, which is especially problematic if your labels are on beauty or bath products that are handled regularly and are susceptible to water damage.
2. Time. The act of printing labels can become time-consuming. Labels printed on an inkjet paper can easily become poorly aligned in the printer, leaving you with label images that aren’t properly centered and wasting valuable materials. It also takes a long time to print 500 or 1000 labels, and since time is money, if it takes too long and wastes long stretches of time setting up and printing out labels you can waste considerable money.
3. Cost. It may seem like printing out your labels on your own printer is much cheaper than paying a professional label printer to do the printing for you; however, if you have many labels to print, the cost of labels and toner can come to exceed the cost of a label printer. Obviously there is a level you have to reach where the cost of the labels begins to go down as the volume increases. However, it’s worth it to contact a label manufacturer and explore where that point is, establish how many labels you need to print to make the cost of each label more affordable than printing from your home.
